Natural Structure

The innermost core of nature is the inspiration for this very new interpretation of ‘natural’. Skin, hide, bone, shell and feather are all reassessed in terms of their colour and patterning potential. Image enlargement adds a new dimension to patterning, as does the modular repetition of structures such as timber rings, honeycombs and coral skeletons.

Architects and furniture designers alike are looking to this concept as inspiration for many of the world’s most adventurous building and interior projects. A respect for the creativity and engineering of the natural world will ensure that we re-evaluate the structural and design possibilities provided by a variety of natural materials.

Faceted, honeycombed, cellular and perforated structures can now all be achieved, thanks to the availability of ultra modern materials and complex computer design programs. These magnificent forms and materials provide a marriage between natural and futuristic in a way never previously seen.

The palette combines the warm, animate tones that we associate with fur, hide, skin, wood and leather with the cooler, skeletal shades of shell, bone and tusk. Encapsulating ideas such as eco integrity and our continued co-existence with nature, it exudes a mood of warmth, security and well-being – quiet and subtle but with an innovative image of contemporary sophistication.
